2014 Committees

Introducing 3 new committees

Council of the European Union

Topic 1: The crisis in the free nation of Ukraine is an extremely complex and diverse issue. On March 2, 2014 Russian troops invaded the Crimea peninsula which is land belonging to Ukraine. Ukraine claims that Russia’s actions are an act of war, where Russia claims it has not broken any international sanctions and that they are merely protecting their interests abroad. The United States and many other countries, manly in NATO and the European Union, are preparing harsh economic sanctions on Russia. Now it is your turn to step in these men and women’s shoes and attempt to solve the problem peacefully and without conflict. Be careful, tensions are high and if this problem isn’t solved quickly, war may return to Europe.

Topic 2: Turkey’s accession to the European Union has been a topic that has involved a high number of negotiations for several years now.  On April 14, 1987, Turkey submitted its official application for formal membership into the European Economic Community.

It is the year 2114, and the world has transitioned into a new, multipolar era defined by regional alliances of global powers. The member states of the European Union have been called into action. A number of key delegates now sit at the 22nd century’s single most important meeting of European leaders—the European Constitutional Convention. These delegates will forever be remembered as the founding fathers of the new United States of Europe (USE).

European Union Historical Crisis
Specialized Committee

Imagine a time when the biggest, bloodiest war in human history had just ended. One of the most infamous dictators in history had admitted defeat and committed suicide. The largest genocide in history had been revealed, the moral perpetrators charged, and punished accordingly. Imperialism was a dying animal, sporting grim gashes and limp limbs amongst its driving forces. Although this may sound like a peaceful time for the rest of the world, the 1950’s was one of the most turbulent decades in global politics, containing some seminal political events. The 1950’s saw the rise of global tensions due to the Cold War, and the world was cleft into two political, administrative and ideological halves -- capitalism, espoused by the US, and communism, adopted by the Soviet Union, or USSR.
